Mina – owner of the Samani Beauty Parlor. NYF rescued her in 2006 after working as an indentured slave for one year. She entered a “bridge program” to catch up academically, then started grade 4. After graduating from high school, she took a NYF- sponsored beautician training and borrowed money from a co-op to start her business. She offers haircuts, facials, waxing, and color and earns up to 1,000 rupees a day. Mina is also continuing her education, working towards a bachelor’s degree in health and population studies. .
