Kamala may be the only female motorcycle repair shop owner in Nepal and hopes to blaze a trail for other women to choose less traditional career paths. After spending seven years as a Kamlari, working under terrible conditions (she was fed with the dog), NYF rescued her in 2004 and put her through school and vocational training. She borrowed money from the Freed Kamlari Development Forum co-op and started her business fixing motorcycles and selling parts. She brings in 5,000 rupees a day (a lot of money in this impoverished country) and employees two men.
